She took further training at the City Hospital, Nottingham, and became a state certified midwife in March 1955. She was a staff midwife at the Royal Maternity Hospital, Belfast, Ireland, from March 1955 until April 1959.

Eleanor went to Canada in 1960 and worked at the University Hospital, Saskatoon, Saskatchewan for one year.

One of Eleanor's greatest accomplishments was becoming a naturalized American citizen in August of 1966.

On January 11, 1964, Eleanor married Paul Acorda in Boise. They had many happy years together, with numerous friends and relatives in the Basque community as well as Eleanor's cousins in Boise. Eleanor was known as Tia (Aunt) Irish to all of her husband's nieces/nephews and their friends- she was always ready to entertain them. She also enjoyed playing the piano and singing with the children. During Paul's last years at the Idaho State Veterans Nursing Home, Eleanor was a faithful visitor.

Eleanor was active in the Presbyterian Church. She loved the Psalms and had a keen enthusiasm for poetry, with a marvelous ability to recite English and Irish poetry from memory. She was a very caring person, and was well liked by all.

Eleanor was proceeded in death by her parents, Aunt Rose of Boise, her sisters, brother, husband, and cousins.

Eleanor is survived by cousins, and nieces and nephews both in England and Boise.

Eleanor leaves many dear friends in Boise. Memorials may be made to the Basque Center,. 601 Grove Street, Boise, ID 83702; to the Presbyterian Church, specify for homeless dinners, 950 W. State Street, Boise, ID, 83702; or to a favorite charity.

A special "Thanks" to the loving care Tia Irish received at Valley View Nursing Home, and also from All Care Hospice.
