Obituary of Betty Tucker

Betty Jane Tucker, beloved wife of C. Wayne Tucker, died peacefully on Sunday, January 12, 2014 at Spring Creek Assisted Living in Eagle, Idaho. She was 93 years old. Betty was born in Boise, Idaho on July 22, 1920 to Faye and Albert Wegener. The family moved to Twin Falls, Idaho in 1925. A farm kid and self described tomboy, she'd rather play basketball and baseball with the boys than wear a frilly dress. At Twin Falls High School she enjoyed acting and often played the leading role in stage productions there. She graduated in 1937 and spent a year with her cousin in Boise attending The Grimes School of Business. She and Wayne met and after a short engagement were married in Twin Falls, Idaho on June 3, 1941. The family left Idaho in 1957 for the Washington, D. C. Metro Area where Wayne pursued a career in government service. Together, they raised three children. When Wayne retired in 1972 they moved to Solomons Island, Maryland, a small fishing community at the junction of the Patuxent River and the Chesapeake Bay. They opened an antique shop there, bought a sailboat, and then an old moving van for estate auctions. Many happy memories were made there with friends, children and grandchildren. There was sailing on the bay and weekends enjoying bushels of steamed blue crabs and shucked oysters in the backyard. Not long after Wayne died in 1985, Betty returned to Idaho and bought a home in Driggs. She opened Red Door Antiques and Collectibles in an old log cabin on Main Street. She made good friends there. Driggs became a favorite family gathering place for reunions, rodeos, rafting and fishing in the summer, skiing in the winter. Later on when the winters became too harsh, she spent those months in assisted living in California near sister Grace, then in Idaho Falls, and in Tennessee with daughter Victoria. Four years ago she returned to Boise to be near her sons, John and Jim. She is survived by her three children: John W. Tucker (Judith) of Eagle, Idaho, James C. Tucker (Brenda) of Eagle, Idaho, and Victoria Faye Blenkarn (Jim) of Murfreesboro, Tennessee. Also surviving her are her sister, Grace Christensen (Carl) of Rancho Santa Margarita, California and brother Steward Wegener (Lynn) of Tacoma, Washington. She is also survived by six grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. A new great grandchild is expected in a few days. The family would like to thank the people at Spring Creek Assisted Living in Eagle and Journey's Hospice for their compassionate and professional care. Betty will be put to rest next to husband Wayne at Pacific View Cemetery, Corona Del Mar, California on Monday, January 20, 2014 at 2:00 PM.
