Obituary of Elisabeth Ferguson

Our mother Elisabeth Ferguson left this earth to be with our father Harold Ferguson on January 19, 2014. Mom was born May 8, 1926 in Eberbach, Germany. She was the first child of Georg and Sofie Karl. Georg was one of Eberbach's bakers, one of mom's and Elfriede's (mom's sister) duties as children was pulling the wagon to the train station to pick up a brick of yeast to be shared among all of Eberbach's bakers. Mom's journey to America began when she met Harold, a soldier from Alabama who eventually became her husband (and our dad). Dad was stationed at a radar installation on a mountaintop outside of Eberbach, the nearest town. That's where dad and his friends went to relax when they were off duty, and that's where dad met mom. The rest is history. They spent 14 years traveling to many different bases while raising three children before dad retired in 1966. The family moved to Boise where mom and dad built and lived in the same home for 43 years. When dad passed away in December 2009, mom lived there for two more years before she moved to Chateau de Boise where she lived for the last two years. Mom sold Avon for 35 years, retiring finally at age 75. Back in those days Avon ladies were assigned a "territory" of specific homes, which in her case was the subdivision she lived in. She could honestly say she knew ALL her neighbors. Selling Avon was more of a social activity for mom than a source of income, and it allowed her flexibility to travel with dad and be there for her kids. Mom loved to return to her hometown in Germany, and her last big trip was for her 80th birthday. She loved Germany and had seemingly endless stories to tell about growing up during the war. Mom had a big personality that matched her big heart. She was always reading and researching, and was never afraid to share her opinions on anything with anyone. When she was in the room everybody knew it. She was a real live-wire. Mom is survived by her sister, Elfriede Neel (Wayne); her sons, Mike Ferguson (Diana) and Steve Ferguson (Sue); her daughter, Linda Bennett (Glenn); her grandson, Jake Ferguson (Taylor); her granddaughters, Jodi Spencer, Jessica Ferguson, and Eileen Deshazo; and her great grandsons, Dylan Spencer, Parker Ferguson, Leland Ferguson, and Dalton Peterson. Mom had very special bonds with Sandy McGavin and Barbara Ferguson; her best childhood friend in Germany Anneliese Perbandt; her best and dearest friends and neighbor for 47 years Nancy Allbritten (Jack); and Rick Baker who we will never be able to repay for all the kindness he has shown both our mom and dad over the years. *********************************************************************************************** Memories of Elisabeth I am so happy that you were my grandma. You are the most courageous woman I have ever known. I will never forget your loving presence. You have taught me so much through the years and for that I can't thank you enough. I can still hear you yelling at grandpa to get me off the roof. How scared you would get. It always made me feel so special. You will always hold a special place in my heart. You are one of a kind woman. I wish we could take one last ride with some good German music and some healthy whip lash. I loved our rides. Thank you for the only safe haven I have ever known. You left a lasting mark that will never be forgotten. Thank you for giving me unconditional love and kindness. I miss and love you so much grandma. You are an amazing and beautiful woman. (I can see you blushing) Forever in my heart, Jacob F. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ Grandma, I will forever cherish the sense of pride you took in your family and your roots. I grew up feeling like I knew Germany, even though I have never been. You had a spunk to be reckoned with that will forever make me smile. Thank you for teaching me about unconditional love. I will miss the way you beamed every time you saw Parker. How you told anyone who would listen how much he loves math, and how you, too, were good at math in school. Parker told me Tuesday evening that he believes people's spirits visit us after death, he said "I smelled Oma and Opa while I was walking to music today." He loves and misses you. I love you, Jessica. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ Thank you mom for being my greatest advocate, I already feel a huge void knowing that I will not be able to see you in person or talk with you again. Love Steve ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ I'll always remember Elisabeth's sense of humor. Whenever she introduced me as her son-in-law, I would correct her and say I was her favorite son-in-law. She would roll her eyes and respond with "Ja. He is my only son-in-law." She never failed to put a smile on my face. I will miss her. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ Mom knowing that your heartache and pain are gone now that you are with dad will help me get thru this next chapter of my life without you. I will love and miss you forever Linda. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ A celebration of mom's life (complete with the German food and music she loved) will be held at 3008 Grandee Street, her home for 45 years, on Sunday April 27, 2014 from 1 pm to 5 pm.
