Obituary of Harriett Urquidi

Now and again someone enters our world that makes each person blessed by their love. Someone who provides the glue that brings families and friends together, someone with boundless humor and a penchant for good fun. Such a one is Harriett (Ocamica) Urquidi. Harriett was born July 28, 1932 to Clara (Rubelt) and Eustaquio Ocamica on the Owyhee Indian Reservation in Nevada. She was raised in Bruneau Valley with her two brothers, living in a tent and covered wagon for two years until her parents purchased property and made Bruneau their home. Harriett attended school in Little Valley, Bruneau and graduated high school from St. Teresa's Academy in Boise. In Harriett's words, "It was truly an education for the Catholic Clergy and me. I was never exposed to any kind of religion and of course they had never been exposed to someone like me!" After high school, Harriett worked in the State Auditor's Office until the love of her life, John Urquidi, swept her off her feet. They were married June 6, 1953 at St. John's Cathedral and were together for 62 wonderful years. Together, they raised their three children in Boise while caring for the family ranch. Once their children were in school, Harriett became a cosmetologist bringing humor and community to her clients, colleagues and the residents at the Heritage Retirement Home. Harriett left this world on March 7, 2018. Those she leaves behind will honor what she taught through example; bringing family together, nurturing lifelong friendships and the power of love, laughter and generosity. Our family wishes to express our deep gratitude to Teresa for the care, love and dedication that made it possible to keep our beautiful mother in her own home. Harriett was preceded in death by her husband, John C. Urquidi, parents, brothers: Jim, Raymond, Homer and Huston Ashby and sister Hazel Ocamica. Envisioning Harriett with her husband, parents, family and many friends brings comfort to those she left behind. Harriett is survived by her daughter Teresa, son John B. and his wife Alisa, daughter Kristi, her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and their families.
