Obituary of Richard Moon

Richard (Dick) C. Moon died on February 2, 2018 in Boise, Idaho. The eldest son of Homer and Helen Moon, Dick was born January 3, 1927, in American Falls, Idaho. He attended schools there, in Twin Falls and Hagerman before graduating in absentee from Wendell High School. He enlisted in the Navy in November, 1944, and served aboard ships stationed off Alaskan and Japanese coasts and elsewhere in the South Pacific. He was honorably discharged in August, 1946. Dick studied at Idaho State University, graduated with a B.A. Degree in Journalism, and later married Janice (Janie) Browning whom he met during his junior year while both were students at ISU. The couple made their home in Idaho Falls where Dick was employed by The Idaho Falls Post Register; then by the Twin Falls Times News before entering the Mountain States Telephone and Telegraph Company Management Training Program. Subsequent assignments followed in Boise and Idaho Falls before he was transferred to MST's corporate office in Denver, Colorado. Dick and Janie returned to Boise in 1965. A short time later he was promoted to Idaho Public Affairs Manager for U.S. West, representing his company in the state and federal legislative arenas. He retired in 1987. Dick and his wife lived in Arizona before returning to Boise in 1992 to help care for their aging parents. He was a member of St. Michael's Episcopal Cathedral, El Korah Shrine, Boise Oriental Lodge #60 and a past president of the Idaho State University Alumni Association. His hobbies included golf, water color painting, leaded glass work and jazz music. In addition to his widow, Dick is survived by his brother, Kenneth Moon of Redmond, Washington; four nieces and one nephew and their six sons and four daughters, in whom he took a special interest and pride. At Dick's request, no funeral services will be held. He chose to be cremated and to have his ashes scattered in his three favorite places. Memorials can be made to St. Michael's Episcopal Cathedral or any other religious or charitable organizations.
