Obituary of Donald Worthington

Donald George Worthington Donald George Worthington died Feb. 3, 2011 at a local hospital. He was born in Cascade, Idaho to Fern and George Worthington on Aug. 10, 1930. Shortly after graduating from Cascade High School, Don enlisted in the U.S. Navy and was stationed in Japan and the Kwajalein Islands for most of his four-year tour of Duty. Don worked for the U.S. Government for 37 years, retiring in 1985. He began his service in Weiser and was working in Boise at the time of his retirement. Don received numerous awards from NASCOE for outstanding service to the U.S. Government. Upon retirement Don became active in the National Active & Retired Federal Employees Association (NARFE). He held offices in local Chapter 83 and was President of the Idaho State Federation of NARFE. Don married Betty Holcombe and they had three children. They were later divorced. Don is survived by his wife, Phyliss; son Larry (Kathy); daughters Natalie Noel, Merrily Wothington; step-daughter Diana (James) Cryer, all of Boise; sisters Lois Coulter of Nampa and June DePartee of Meridian. He also leaves seven grandchildren; six great-granddaughters; a great-grandson; as well as several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Roy, two brother-in-laws, a sister-in-law and a son-in-law. Graveside services will be held at Morris Hill Cemetery on Wednesday, Feb. 9 at 10 a.m. The service will be conducted by Rev. Jackie Holland, Pastor of the Center for Spiritual Living Church. Arrangements are under the direction of Summers Funeral Homes, Ustick Chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in Don's name to the Center for Spiritual Building Fund, 10448 W. Garverdale Ct., Ste 608, Boise, Idaho 83704 or NAC (Northwest Animal Companions), PO Box 6376, Boise, Idaho 83707, a no kill animal shelter. Or a charity of your choice. In addition to family and friends, Don's great loves were the beautiful flowers he grew, the Boston Celtics and Gonzaga basketball teams, dark chocolate, vanilla ice-cream and the family dog, Cinnamon.
