Obituary of Buster Goode

Buster Goode Caldwell - Long-time Rupert Ford Dealer, Buster Goode, 85, passed away peacefully in his sleep on November 30, 2011 at a Treasure Valley area care facility. Buster was born in Paul, Idaho on October 10, 1926, the son of Earl George and Gladys Easton Goode. He grew up in Rupert and graduated from Rupert High School. In 1943, during World War II, he enlisted in the US Army, where he proudly served his country, including a tour of duty in Europe, and was honorably discharged in 1946. He then attended Stanford University in Palo Alto, California for several years, until the automobile business drew him back to Rupert, where he joined his father at Goode Motor in 1948. He married Ruth Gochnour of Burley on May 13, 1950, a union that lasted 54 years until Ruth passed away in 2004. They had one daughter, Jill, and two sons, Chris and Jon. Buster owned and operated the Goode Motor Ford franchise for over a half-century until 2003, when Ruth's cancer treatment necessitated relocation to Boise. During his time in business, he was actively involved in the Rupert community, and also served on a wide variety of auto dealer committees. Ford Motor Company recognized him with numerous awards for sales excellence. He thoroughly enjoyed bird hunting, fishing, and travel, and also had a soft-spot in his heart for any stray animals that crossed his path. He took great pride in his children and grandchildren, and his "go get 'em" approach to life will be greatly missed. Buster is survived by his sister, Irene Goode Thornburg, Denver, Colorado; daughter, Jill (Craig) Hodges, Fairfield, California; son, Chris (Lynette) Goode, Boise, Idaho; son, Jon (Shari) Goode, Soda Springs, Idaho; two grandsons, Benjamin (Erica) Goode and Nathanael Goode, one granddaughter, Alex Marie Goode, and one great-granddaughter, Riley Ruth Goode. Cremation was conducted under the direction of Summers Funeral Home in Boise. Interment at the Rupert Cemetery, with military honors, will occur in the late June vicinity. A celebration of Buster's life will also be held at that time. Condolences may be posted at www.summersfuneral.com. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation be made to your local Humane Society.
