Obituary of Barbara Sword

Barbara Jean Sword Barbara Jean Sword of Boise, Idaho passed away on Friday February 24, 2012 in Boise after a battle with lung cancer. Barbara was born December 13, 1927 at home in the North End on Pueblo Street in Boise, Idaho to Vernon and Lureno (Moore) Snider. She was the youngest of three, following siblings Betty and Bill. Barbara graduated from Boise High School in 1945. While there she met her future husband, Dick (Richard) Sword. Barbara and Dick were married on December 23, 1947 in Boise. During their years together while raising their family Barbara and Dick enjoyed boating and camping. Barbara loved the trip to Hawaii she and Dick took - talking about it often. A few years after her husband passed away, she went on a trip to New Zealand with her friend Pauline, Barbara loved this trip. After Dick's passing, Barbara went to work for several years at Great Western (later known as Best) where she enjoyed meeting many people including long lost friends. Barbara stayed in touch with her childhood friend, Bev Burrell. The two met when they were four years old. Barbara also enjoyed keeping an aquarium for many years and had the company of several cats - Austin & Misty, the beloved Sam and finally Chloe. Barbara is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and her brother Bill (William) Snider. She is survived by her daughter Lin (Dan) Peterson of Saratoga Springs, UT; her son Scott Sword of Boise, ID; her son Martin Sword of Boise, ID; and her daughter Susan (Paul) Paduano of Nampa, ID; nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. The family would like to offer thanks to Four Rivers Hospice, particularly to Colleen, Albert, Vicki and Athena. Thanks also go to Havenwood caregivers Angela, Danielle, Marina and Tiffany who helped Mom stay in her home as she wished. Heartfelt thanks to Nancy Bumpus and to Allison Sword for their loving nurturing care. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the American Cancer Society or to Simply Cats. A gathering will be held at Summers Funeral Homes, Ustick Chapel on Saturday, March 3, 2012 from 12-2pm followed by gravesite services at Dry Creek Cemetery.
