Obituary of Marye Welch

Marye L. Welch Marye L. Welch passed away peacefully at her home on March 1, 2012, ten days shy of her 95th birthday. Marye was raised on a ranch in Kilgore, Idaho, and as a young girl, she rode her horse to a one-room schoolhouse. She was later awed by the wonder of indoor plumbing and electricity. At age sixteen, she became a nanny for a prominent family on the East coast. On her days off, she would always go to the theatre to see a Western and cry because she was so homesick. She later returned to Idaho to attend the University of Idaho, Southern Branch (ISU). After completion of her studies, she was off to the big city - Boise. Although she had left the ranch, she always remained a ranch girl at heart. In Boise she met her lifelong friend Irma Ayers and another person, "Beanie" Welch. Sparks flew. WWII interrupted their romance, but upon Beanie's return, they were married and soon two sons arrived. They built and moved into their only home in 1948. The center of her world became and remained Arcadia Street, her neighbors, friends, and family. The honeymoon was cut short after 25 years when Beanie suffered a sudden heart attack. Marye chose to remain a widow while devoting her life to her family and community. During her life, she worked in the Ada County Assessor's Office, the Idaho Education Association and the City Clerk's Office. She was a founder of the St. Alphonsus Auxiliary and recognized for fifty years of volunteer service. Marye was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Her faith worked in her life, she never needed it validated by others, yet it always sustained her. If one word were chosen to describe Marye, it would be "appreciative." Personally, the word she used most late in her life was "Wow!" -and she meant it. The loss of her good friends and neighbors, Jake, Anie, Irma, and Mary Jean profoundly affected her. The family extends our deepest appreciation to everyone who has always been kind and considerate to Marye. She is survived by her son, Fred Welch; son and daughter-in-law, Joe and Debbie Welch; her two cherished grandchildren, James and Mackie Welch; and her beloved niece, Leann Garton. The family invites you to a modest graveside service to be held in her honor on Thursday, March 8, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at Morris Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to a favorite charity or simply undertake a random act of kindness, Marye would like that.
