Obituary of Leo Wissel

Leo L. Wissel 1920-2012 Leo L. Wissel passed away March 9, 2012, after a brief illness. He was born May 20, 1920 in Nampa, Idaho to John F. and Nora V. Wissel. He graduated in 1938 from Nampa High School. Leo attended The College of Idaho. He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and served as a Marine Aviation Mechanic in the Pacific during World War II. Following the War Leo returned to Idaho. In 1952 he married the love of his life, Mary Ellen Johnston. Together they had one daughter. In 1955, they moved to California. While in California Leo sold farm machinery and worked for the California Sugar Beet Growers Association as a Field Liaison. Leo and Mary Ellen returned to Idaho in 1976, where he continued to sell farm equipment for Mountain View Equipment Company in Meridian, Idaho. Leo was active with the parish at St. Mark's Catholic Church, with the VFW Lodge # 63 and the El Korah Shrine Temple. Leo is preceded in death by his parents, and six of his siblings. He is survived by his wife, Mary Ellen; daughter, Ellen Wissel Alldredge (Mike); grandson, Collin Alldredge and granddaughter, Morgan Alldredge; his sister, Kathryn (Kitty) Huff; as well as many nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Leo's name to Shriners Hospitals for Children, Fairfax Ave. & Virginia Street, Salt Lake City, UT 84103; or charity of their choice. The family of Leo Wissel would like to thank the staff at The Marquis Friendship House, all of whom provided such kind and loving care. Memorial graveside services will be Friday, March 16th at 3:00 p.m. at the Idaho State Veterans Cemetery. Vigil services will be Friday, March 16th at 7:30 p.m. at St. Mark's Catholic Church, 7960 Northview, Boise, Idaho. A memorial mass will be Saturday, March 17th at 1:00 p.m. also at St. Mark's Catholic Church, with a reception following the services.
