Obituary of Marjie Sweetwood

Marjie L. Sweetwood 91 of 254 Old Saybrook, Boise, died peacefully at home on Sept.28 of complications due to old age. Funeral services will be conducted at Summers Funeral Homes, Ustick Chapel at 2:00 pm Friday, Oct. 5. Graveside services will be held on Saturday, Oct. 6, in Twin Falls at Sunset Memorial Cemetery at 11:30 am. Mrs. Sweetwood was born December 4, 1920, at Twin Falls, a daughter of Lee and Elda Leichliter. After attending a one-room country school for much of her elementary education, she graduated from Twin Falls High School in 1939. Marjie attended the University of Idaho where she met her future husband, Charles Sweetwood of Los Angeles. They were married June 3, 1943, in Moscow in a double wedding ceremony with her sister Wilma and her husband Russel Stewart. With her husband in the Army, the couple moved to Ft. Benning, GA, and Camp Robinson, AR, before he was sent overseas. While Charles was overseas she gave birth to their two children, Susan and David. Following WW II, the couple lived in Pocatello. In 1953 she & the twins joined Charles for a year in Israel and they then moved to Boise. In 1962 Charles joined the US State Department in Washington DC. They were posted to India and then South Africa, retiring to Boise in 1980. She was preceded in death by her husband Charles, her brother Robert Leichliter and sisters Ellen (Peg) Bagnall and Wilma (Bill) Stewart. Survivors include their daughter Susan and her husband Alvin Burgemeister and their son David Sweetwood and his wife Libby Roberts, granddaughters Kristina Burgemeister Thelen and her husband Timothy Thelen and Amy Sweetwood Carrasco and her husband Joseph Carrasco, and seven great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother-in-law, Russel Stewart, as well as many nieces, nephews, and dear friends. The family suggests that memorials be made to the Idaho Food Bank or to a favorite charity.
