Obituary of Earl Williams

Earl M. Williams left this earth and went to his heavenly home on March 18, 2013. He was born on March 30, 1929, in Colorado to Wayne and Edna Williams. The family later moved to Eastern Oregon where Earl attended Vale schools graduating from high school in 1948. He excelled in sports and went on to play football and basketball at Boise Junior College for Lyle Smith. At BJC he majored in education and met his future wife and life-long partner, Joan Edwards. They married in 1952. He completed his BA at Idaho State University and was drafted into the U. S. Army and became a second lieutenant in 1953. He left active military service in 1958 to accept a teaching and coaching job in Vale, Oregon, later moving to Ontario, Oregon. Earl furthered his education by earning a Master's Degree in Education at the College of Idaho in 1960. He continued his Army career as a reservist for nearly 30 years attaining the rank of Colonel. In 1988, he retired from the reserves and teaching to spend the next 20 years traveling the U.S. with Joan by motor home and taking several tours to foreign countries. His greatest joy was being with his family and he was a proud dad to his three wonderful children who gave him eight "awesome" grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers and two sisters. He is survived by his wife, Joan of 60 years; a daughter, Pamela (Rod) Kautz of Boise; sons, Jeff (Debbie Park) Williams of Twin Falls and Matt (Karlene) Williams of Boise; grandchildren, Casey and Taylor Kautz, Katie, Emily, John, Kaylan, Sierra and Corbin Williams; brothers, Harold, John, and Clifford Williams; sister, Bonnie Hjelmberg; and half-brother, Roy Law. Earl was a faithful member of the Lutheran Church for 60 years. There will be viewing from 2:00 to 4:00 pm on Sunday, March 24, 2013 at Summers Funeral Home, 1205 W. Bannock St., Boise. Funeral services will be at 12:00 noon on Monday, March 25 at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 5009 Cassia St., Boise. Burial with Army Honors will follow at 3:00 pm at the Idaho State Veterans Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Good Shepherd Church or a charity of your choosing. The family is grateful to the staff and caregivers at The Cottages and also to Legacy Hospice for their help and support.
