Obituary of James Olsen

James Leonard Olsen, 84, died Wednesday, July 24, 2013 of natural causes. He was born June 5, 1929 in Nampa, ID to Henry Olaf Olsen and Lena May Woods Olsen. He was the oldest of two sons. His father died when he was only 12 years old, leaving a young mother with two young boys to raise. Dad worked for local ranch families in Horseshoe Bend, where his ancestors had settled. It was the place he called home. This was the beginning of Dad's life-long love of horses, livestock and the West. As a teenager he lived in Marsing, ID with his Aunt Doris and Uncle Orville Bish and their family. He had many fond memories of his time spent with the family. As a senior he moved to Boise to live with his mother and brother, Delbert (Buzz) Olsen. There he graduated from Boise High School. In April 1949, he married Alice L Olavarria of McDermitt, NV. Together they had three children, Janis (Bill) True, Dennis Olsen and Sharon (Dave) Pearl, 6 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandson. He enjoyed his work at Consolidated Freightways for over 30 years as a truck driver and later in the office as a claims adjuster. After retirement they bought a motor home and away they went, visiting grandchildren and seeing the U. S. Dad was a member of the Caldwell Elk's Lodge #1448, the Teamsters Union, Good Sam Club and past president and vice president of the Western Riding Club. Dad loved good horses, Idaho mountains and lakes, hunting in the Selway, snowmobiling, camping and the open road. He especially enjoyed many good times with Mom, his kids and grandkids and many good friends at their Clear Creek cabin. Funeral services will be held Sunday, July 28, 2013 at Summers Funeral Home, Ustick Chapel at 11:00 a.m.
