Eli Krommenhoek

Obituary of Eli Lance Krommenhoek

Eli Lance Krommenhoek, 85, of Boise, Idaho, passed away on March 7, 2023.

Eli, known as Babe to his siblings, nieces, and nephews and as Lanny to his Mother, was born to John and Rose Krommenhoek on May 29, 1937, the third of eight children, in Sioux City, Iowa.

Eli was born during the depression and learned early how to work hard and get by on very little.  He loved work and spent many years working nights at Consolidated Freightways and rototilling gardens all over Boise in the spring and fall.

Eli was a good baseball player in high school and as an adult he played on intramural teams.  He pitched a great spit ball.  He loved to swim, golf, and could bowl an 800 series.  He also loved anything mechanical and would work on any car, dishwasher, bike, typewriter, computer, and more to get them in working order.

Eli met mom while he was working in Southern Idaho after high school.   He married Jean Wood in Idaho Falls, Idaho, in 1958.  Eli loved his brothers and sisters and was thrilled to enlarge his family with Jean’s 6 siblings.  When they got married Eli had a cute little two-seater car called a metropolitan.  Mom loved this car while they were dating.  However, it became the bane of Mom’s existence when she gave birth to their first child in 1959.  A two-seater car is not really family friendly.  Hopefully, heaven has a cute little four-seater and Eli, mom, Debbie and Marvin are driving all the backroads of heaven together with the windows rolled down.

He served briefly in the Army at Tacoma Washington.  After leaving the army Eli moved mom and 3 children back to southern Idaho.  They later moved to Boise where Eli worked full-time during the day and attended school at night, while raising a family of 6 children!  He graduated with a bachelors degree from Boise State University, College of Business in 1972.  Eli’s work ethic was incredible.

Eli is survived by his children Jeanine (Steve), Brad (Nina), Angela and Diane (John), 16 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.  Also surviving are his; siblings, John, Jake (Francie), Marjorie, Bob (Portia), and Carol (John).  Eli was preceded in death by his wife Jean, son Marvin and daughter Debbie, parents John and Rose, sisters Jean and Jane, and sister-in law Karla.

Funeral services for Eli will be held on Monday, March 20, 2023, at 11:00 am.  A family viewing and prayer will precede the service at 10:00 am.  There will be a light lunch provided for family members following the 1:00 pm interment at the Idaho State Veterans Cemetery.

Services will take place at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at 3229 Bogus Basin Road, Boise, Idaho.
