Iris McNeil (Mohr) Scribner

Obituary of Iris May McNeil (Mohr) Scribner

Iris was born January 8, 1932 in New Baden, Texas and died on August 22, 2021 at her home in Boise, Idaho.  Mom and her four brothers and sister were orphaned when she was only 3 years old.  She went to live with her maternal grandmother on the small family farm in central Arkansas while her older brothers were sent to an orphanage in Waco, Texas and her infant sister moved to live with family in Hailey, Idaho.  Even though the family was separated they remained close, sharing holidays, special occasions and traveling together throughout their lives.

Mom was educated in a one room schoolhouse in Arkansas.  From there she attended the boarding school at School of the Ozarks for her high school years. After high school she earned a full ride college scholarship and earned her R.N. in Springfield, Missouri.  Thus began a long career in Nursing.

As kids we moved from Kansas to Idaho to California and Florida.  In 1971, mom moved the three of us to Coeur d' Alene, Idaho.  As a single parent she raised her two boys while working fulltime as a nurse. Mom's career led her to become Director of Nursing Services at Kootenai Medical Center.  She was an amazing mom who persevered as a single working mother in the 1970's.

In 1977, Mom was blessed when she married William (Bill) Scribner of Boise.  For the 16 years they shared they had a great life of traveling throughout Idaho, the west, and the occasional trip to the Caribbean, Mexico, or Canada. Those two would hook up the trailer and take off, destination kind of known only returning home when it was time for a rest.  Bill truly was the love our mom's life and we're so thankful she was able to enjoy the time they had together.

Our mom is survived by her sons Bruce (LeAnn) and Brian (Teri) both of Boise, Idaho.  Her grandchildren Andrew (Sarah), Grayson and Eric of Boise, Brent (Alexis) of Coeur d'Alene and Megan McPherson (Chase) of McCall and numerous great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her sister Marie Schmidt of Mountain View, California.  Preceding her in death were her parents and brothers, Mark, Les, Daniel and David. Her brothers were always just a phone call away.

Iris requested there be no public service and her family will honor her at a private event. Mom's ashes will be inurned with Bill in Dry Creek Cemetery and scattered up on the mountain in North Idaho:  The place they both loved.
