Obituary of Richard A. Jobes

Richard Jobes, (Dick to most who knew him), loving husband, father, grandfather, engineer, brother and friend passed away April 2, 2021 peacefully at home. He was born in Melvin Iowa, to his parents Viola and Arthur and 2 brothers and 4 sisters. His father owned Jobes Grocery in that small farming town and he learned his hard work ethic there. He lived there his entire growing up years until he enrolled at Iowa State University on a whim and found he had a great engineering ability. He enlisted in the US Army 2 years later to serve his country and ensure he could graduate using the GI Bill. When he returned to Iowa, he met Donna Jean on a blind group date and it was love at first sight. She was the love of his life. They married January 29,1956 and had almost 60 together before her passing in 2015. Together they raised their 3 children, Michael, Pam and Mark, first in Iowa and then moving to Boise in 1964. Dick wanted to go out west and found the perfect job for him at the Idaho Transportation Bridge Division. He was proud of his work and had his hands in almost every bridge that was designed during his 30 years, retiring in 1994 as head of the department. His favorite bridges were The Perrine and the span on I 90 in N. Idaho. After retirement he consulted for 12 more years.

He was a proud father and grandfather. He taught his children to work hard, never give up and always be kind and fair. He was always happy when the kids and grandkids were around and loved being out in his yard.

He had a wonderful life, was proud and humble and will be missed by many who are comforted to know that he now is with Donna who preceded him in death in 2015. He is survived by his children, Michael Jobes, Pamela Murphy Lovell (Greg) and Mark Jobes . His grandchildren Shannon Street (Jeffrey), Adam Murphy, Taylor Jobes, and Haley Jobes, Scott Bush (Kim), Erika Bush and great grandchildren, Huckleberry Street; Kayla, Alyssa, Zach Bush.

He will be buried at Dry Creek Cemetery, with Donna, Friday, April 9th, 2021 at 1:00p.m..
