Obituary of Ila Rae Sanderson

Ile Rae (Bennett) Sanderson passed away on 13 February 2019. She was born November 2 1934 in Seward Alaska to Adam William (Bill) Bennett and Inez Bertha (Warren) Bennett who both proceeded her in death. She was the youngest of three sisters Ila’ sisters are Ardeth May Bennett and Laska (Denny) Carolyn Bennett.

Her early years were formed by the adventures of living in the Alaska wilderness on Long Island where her dad raised foxes for the fur trade. She would tell us great stories of living on the island and having to boat from Long Island AK to Seward AK for supplies. In the 40’s the fur prices fell after WW2, she moved with the family to Wolf Creek MT where she attended and graduated from Cascade High School. After high school she meet, fell in love and married Wendel George Sanderson. They moved to Boseman where she went to work for the phone company. While there she had two children, Warren Nelson Sanderson and Rebecca Rae Sanderson (proceeded her in death). When Wendel completed collage they moved to Albuquerque New Mexico where she attended the University of New Mexico earning a degree in early childhood development. Then in 1968 they moved to Vale Oregon where she started her teaching career in the Willow Creek and Vale school districts. She also became involved in the 4H horse clubs teaching many new horseback riders the enjoyment of riding. She always led the club in the 4th of July parade down the main street of Vale. After teaching she started a second career working for the Oregon State Child Protection Services where she travelled all over the state of Oregon. She then retired so she could enjoy her four grandsons Ryan Sanderson, Greg Petty, Brandon Sanderson, Joey Petty and two great grandsons Jaxson Sanderson and Maddox Sanderson. She is now in the arms of her Lord Jesus Christ and will be missed until we are reunited again.
