Obituary of Janice Fowler
Janice Virginia Dodd Fowler, 82, was born January 30, 1936 at home in Burkville, Alabama. She was the third child of Willie and Edna Hawkins Dodd. She grew up in rural Alabama and moved to Mesquite, NV before her senior year of high school. She graduated from Virgin Valley High School in Mesquite and attended one quarter of college at Dixie College in St. George, UT. She married her childhood sweetheart, Ben Fowler, on January 20, 1954. Ben was enlisted in the Marine Corps, and they spent the first years of their marriage in many different places. They eventually settled in Idaho and there raised their four children: Patti, Mike, Jeff, and Robyn.
Jan was very involved with her family’s activities, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, and the community. She loved sports and was a staunch supporter of high school sports in Meridian and in Garden Valley, ID. She also loved to play games and was happy when there were enough people around to play Rook, Dominoes, Hand and Foot, or Greedy.
She was thrilled when grandchildren began to arrive and was a wonderful grandma. She cooked for and with them, made scrapbooks for each of them, played sports and games with them, and even started a water fight or two with them. She has 19 grandchildren, 25great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. She was loved by everyone. She struggled with the challenge of dementia in her later years, but Ben took wonderful care of her. He was and forever will be “her boyfriend.”
She is survived by her husband, Ben, and children Patti (Nathan) Jacobson, Mike (Rochelle) Fowler, Jeff (Holly) Fowler, and Robyn (Rob) Padilla as well as 18 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren. She is also survived by her siblings and their spouses, Thelma Davis, Linda (Steve) Cozzens, Ron (Sharon) Dodd, and sister-in-law Jody Dodd. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers, Jim and Cliff Dodd, and her grandson, Josh Fowler.
