Obituary of Roberta Lois Adams

Roberta Lois Flood Adams, 91, of Boise, ID, passed away on December 10, 2017 at St. Luke's Boise Regional Medical Center after a brief illness. She was born on October 28, 1926, the daughter of Robert "Elkhorn Bob" T. Flood and Frances M. (Foote) Flood. Her father passed away before her 2nd birthday. She was raised, along with her two older sisters Laura and Frances (Franny), by her mother at 1517 N. 8th St. in Boise for her first 20 years. Roberta had many fond memories of growing up in the North End. She developed a friendship bond with fellow Longfellow Elementary School classmates: Isabel Brassy, Jean Patrick and Annona DeWinters since the 1st grade. Later at Boise (North) Junior High, Adelaide McLeod joined into the group. After the five of them graduated in the Boise High Class of 44' they stayed friends for life, continuing to meet at least once a month for lunch up until Roberta passed away, and the first one not able to be there for lunch. High School brought about many fun activities including one of the "gang's" favorite during the summer which was to ride bicycles, with the girls usually on the handle bars, out to the "Twin Bridges" (now Boise Ave. /Law) to have a picnic and swim. During the winter time they spent many times "hooky bobbin" by hanging on to the bumpers of the cars going down the snow-covered roads. She married one of her buddies from the gang, Richard L. "Dick" Adams on August 4, 1946 (the hottest day of the year at 104' - we were all reminded several times thru the years) at the Congregational Church in Boise. Roberta worked for First Security Bank before they were married and into the fourth year of their marriage. After this time, she was a wonderful homemaker raising her children and supporting her husband in all their adventures as well with his business, Richard L. Adams Painting and Decorating, which he started in 1948. Roberta was involved in several organizations throughout her life including Jaceyettes, Rotary Ann's (until her passing), PTA at Campus and Central schools. As a loving mother she volunteered for the Boise YMCA Swim Team, besides driving her children to swim practice at 5:30 every morning for several years, also was team mom and time keeper for years. She also helped with the Bogus Basin Mitey Mites ski racing team with gate keeping, timer and starter assistant, normally standing in the cold winter weather at hours on end while cheering on her kids and all of their team mates. She was involved with Job's Daughters with her two daughters. Besides snow skiing and water skiing most of her life, she was an avid golfer at Crane Creek where she always "walked" the course up into her early 80's and enjoyed bowling and bridge. One of Roberta's attributes was a sharp mind and keen memory. While growing up in the North End, she would amaze her children and grandchildren with knowing what family had lived in which house along with their family history on the streets from 6th to 25th and Fort to Hill Rd. and beyond. Roberta lived in their home on Crestline Drive for the last 59 years. Roberta and Dick had their first child, Richard C. "Ricky" Adams in May of 1947. Unfortunately, he was born with a congenital heart disease and suffered greatly. When he was 7 months old Ricky, who was known as Boise's Blue Baby, because of his disease, was flown to San Francisco on a special mercy flight by the National Guard, to have a special surgery performed. He passed way before the surgery commenced. Roberta is survived by her children, grand children and great grandchildren: Nancy Uhl, Redmond, WA; Sally Hanson, Boise and her children Steven (Brandy) Hanson and children Austin, Arianna, Jakob; Pam (Tim) Jessen and children Skyler, Beau and Emma; Jim Adams, Boise and sons Andrew (Samantha) Adams and sons Rowan and Atlas; Kendall (Lanita) Adams and son David; and Ben Adams; Scott (Kathy) Adams, Kirkland, WA and daughter Casey; Pat (DiAnn) Adams, Boise and children Brittanny (Tony) Liles and children Dimitri, Jacoby, Maeley and Makinnley; Brandon (Amanda) Adams and sons Harrison and Henry; Bryan (Nicole) Adams and Brady Adams. She was preceded in death by her husband of 69 years, Dick, her infant son Ricky, her parents and sisters.
