Obituary of Michael Riley Stoneman

Michael Riley Stoneman passed away peacefully on February 14, 2018, with his family by his side. Mike was born March 1, 1941 on the Oregon Slope to Floyd and Evelyn Stoneman. He graduated from Weiser High School, and then attended Boise Junior College before enlisting in the Air Force in 1960. He proudly served in Vietnam, and upon his return he joined his father at the family ranch in Weiser. During that time, he met his wife, Margo Marshall. Mike and Margo were married on August 14, 1965, at which time he joined his father-in-law Jack Marshall at The Marshall Company in Payette. He worked throughout the entire factory, from sweeping floors to delivering and installing church furniture, which he did for 16 years. He eventually earned a management position, and was President of the company for 32 years. Mike enjoyed many hobbies, including racing their Corvette in hill climb competitions with his wife early in their marriage. He also traveled extensively on his motorcycle, throughout the United States, Canada, and Europe. Mike was also skilled at vehicle restorations. He fully restored many John Deere tractors, which led him to his next endeavor: antique tractor pulls. Both he and Margo competed in many pulls around the valley, and nobody will ever forget the pink and purple John Deere that he bought his wife so she could pull in style. He then restored a 1962 Chevrolet Corvair, which was joined by his 1957 Ford Fairlane. His last, and most treasured restoration, was his custom 1951 GMC 970 truck. Inspired after the World Trade Center attacks in 2001, it is themed with an American eagle, and red, white, and blue accents. Mike is survived by his wife Margo, sons: William, Thomas, and Michael (Michelle), dachshund Lucy, grandchildren Maria, Kimberly, Chase, Michael, Savannah, 3 great grandchildren, sister Nordelle (Jack Terry), brother-in-law Max Marshall, numerous nieces and nephews, and his model 8020 John Deere tractor. Mike was preceded in death by his mother and father, and grandson Kyle. Services will be held at the Payette First United Methodist Church, Wednesday, February 21, at 11:00AM, with luncheon reception following. Private graveside service at Riverside Cemetery will be held afterward. Flowers are welcome, and contributions may be sent to the Boise Humane Society.
