Obituary of Janice Taylor Settelmeyer
Janice Taylor Settelmeyer passed away at her home in Boise, ID on March 9, 2018 at the age of 72. Janice is survived by her husband, Jerry; children, Christopher, Scott, and Jacob; sister, Suzanne; and five grandchildren. Janice was born on May 13, 1945 in Syracuse, New York to Dorothy Marion Taylor. She graduated from Chico State University in 1968 with a Bachelor's Degree in English and a Minor in Spanish, after which she received her Master's Degree in Education. She married Jerry in 1969 at St. John's Presbyterian Church in Reno, Nevada. Janice began her teaching career at Beaver Creek Elementary School east of Portland, OR in 1970 before moving to Davis, California where she taught for over 30 years. Janice and Jerry welcomed their three sons between 1974 and 1980. Her children remember her as a kind, loving, and tirelessly supportive and encouraging wife, mother, grandmother and best friend. Janice devoted many years to youth education and advocacy groups. Even in retirement in Oregon, she pursued her passion and worked as a substitute teacher at local elementary schools. She also was an avid Boise State Broncos fan, loved knitting, wildlife, her dogs, playing golf with her girlfriends, exploring the country from the Rockies to the Oregon Coast with Jerry and, above all, spending time with and "doting" on her grandchildren, as she'd often say. She was also an active and dedicated member of PEO in Idaho. A memorial service is scheduled for Saturday, April 21, 2018 at St. Michael's Cathedral at 1:30 pm MT, with a reception to follow. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Janice's life. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to St. Luke's Children's Hospital in Boise.
