Obituary for Arline Deigel

Arline Deigel
After 90 years on this earth, Arline Esther (Huber) Deigel passed away April 29, 2017.
Arline was born in Hosmer, South Dakota, the second of three daughters of Eugene and Anna Huber. Until she started school she spoke German at home and the local Lutheran Church. During WWII, Arline met William Deigel and they were married in 1944 at Fort Smith, AR. While Bill was in Europe during the war, she lived in South Dakota. Their first son (Billy) was born just as Bill returned after recovering from severe war wounds and they then began life on a ranch in South Dakota on the Missouri River. Their second son, Michael, was born during this time. They moved to Gettysburg, SD after the ranch was inundated by rising water of a reservoir.
Arline was a homemaker and later worked as a nurse’s aide in the local hospital and then in retail. They moved to Belle Fourche, SD in the early 60’s and on to Idaho in 1964 where they lived in Aberdeen or American Falls for the next 30 years. She enjoyed working during potato harvest sorting potatoes. She was a meticulous housekeeper and hostess, priding herself in decorating and cleaning her home. She was always particular about her wardrobe, matching colors and jewelry to every occasion and would have her hair styled every week. She enjoyed making ceramics and church activities. She and Bill enjoyed traveling and fishing.
In 1997 Bill and Arline moved to Meridian near their older son. She was a member of Christ Lutheran Church in Meridian. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Bill who passed away just short of their 66th wedding anniversary and her granddaughter Meredith Diegel.
Arline is survived by her sons Billy (Lucia) Diegel of Meridian and Michael (Joanne) Diegel of Covington, WA, granddaughter Morgan (Daniel) Diegel and two sisters Vivian Papp, Auckland, NZ and Clare Engel, West Linn, OR.
A memorial service will be held Friday, May 19th, 2017 at Summers Funeral Home in Meridian at 11am. A private burial will be held at the Idaho State Veterans Cemetery.
