Obituary for Sandra Coburn

Sandy was born in St. Louis, Missouri, on August 22, 1943 to William & Druisella Coburn. She left this earth on Tuesday, April 11, 2017. At a very young age, Sandy’s parents chose to leave Missouri and make their way out west to Idaho. The family settled in McCall, and that is where Sandy spent her childhood days. In 1949, her younger brother Mark came along and what a joy it was for her to have someone to boss around! Sandy and her brother Mark learned the value of living off the land, working hard and playing hard. The beautiful Idaho terrain was their playground.

Sandy graduated in 1961 from McCall/Donnelly High School. She then went on to attend the College of Idaho to earn her bachelor’s degree in social work. Sandy had a passion for social work and felt a deep connection to those she tried to help. Sandy was always a free spirit and one to look for adventure. This passion took Sandy to Santa Monica, California, where she spent many carefree days working and enjoying life. Sandy even had the opportunity to star in a Hollywood Film. This was an exciting opportunity in her life and to this day you can look on YouTube and find the film that she had a small role in and see her name in the credits! Sandy loved animals, especially the many cats that she cared for over the years. She was never one to turn away a stray and whenever she had a little extra money, she would donate it to the Idaho Humane Society or the Just for Strays program. In 1987, Sandy began working for the Idaho State Insurance Fund, where she would work for 19 years and retire from in 2006. She made many friends and built relationships at this job.

Sandy was preceded in death by her parents, William & Druisella Coburn and other numerous relatives. She is survived by her brother Mark W. Coburn, his five children whom she loved and they loved her, ten great-nephews and one great-great nephew. Sandy’s witty sense of humor, silly jokes, inquisitive mind and kind spirit will be missed.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, April 21, 2017 at 3:00p.m. at Summer’s Funeral Home located at 1205 W. Bannock St., Boise, Idaho. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked you to please consider making a small donation to the Idaho Humane Society in Sandy’s name.
